Women’s Health & Fitness Day is the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for women of all ages. This year’s event is set for Wednesday, September 27, 2017, and in future years, is always held on the last Wednesday in September. Now is the time for businesses to turn their focus on the importance of regular physical activity and health awareness for women. There are so many ways to get involved with the promotion of health and fitness. Here are some tips for recognizing National Women’s Health and Fitness Day in your office.
There is nothing more exciting than receiving a gift. Even more exciting is receiving a gift from an employer that is both meaningful and useful. During National Women’s Health and Wellness Day, show employees how much you care by presenting each one with a few small tokens that remind them to be healthy.
For the Ladies:
National Women’s Health and Fitness Day is about educating women of all ages on the importance of staying active and making healthy practices a part of their everyday routine. Find gifts that will serve as positive reminders and build gift baskets for each employee. Your fitness kit could include:
- Lip Balm containing SPF
- Emery Boards and Manicure Kits
- Self-Exam Shower Cards for Breast Cancer
- Cosmetic Bags and Coin Purses
For the Gentleman:
Health and fitness isn’t limited to just the ladies. Find ways to make the men in your organization part of the celebration. There are several health and fitness gifts that are perfect for the guys. Fill their fitness kit with:
- Fitness Watches
- Sport Wrist Bands
- Combs and Travel Size Grooming Kits
- Self-Exam Shower Cards for Testicular Cancer
- Hydration Waist Packs
Attend a Health and Wellness Fair- During National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, many healthcare organizations and other businesses will be hosting events intended to educate and promote wellness. Don’t have time to organize your own event? Find one near you and encourage employees (men and women) to attend.
Provide Healthy Snacks in the Break Room- Give employees the option to trade in their candy bar and potato chip snacks for healthier options. Foods like cheese, yogurt, almonds, apples, bananas, popcorn, peanut butter, and even dark chocolate are all power foods that can be served as snacks throughout the day. Provide each employees with information on the health and benefits of each power food. Invite employees to begin bringing in their own power food recipes to share throughout the week.
Start a Fitness Challenge- Get everyone excited about health by inviting employees to participate in a fitness challenge. Some examples include walking challenges, weight loss challenges, take the stairs challenges, and bike to work challenges. Get creative and allow employees to have input. Track their progress and reward employees as they meet their health goals (yay, more gifts!).
National Women’s Health and Fitness Day is a chance for employers to promote healthy habits throughout the workplace. While the day might celebrate women’s health, it is still a great opportunity to get your entire staff involved. Find creative ways to educate your employees and encourage each of them to make healthy choices each day.
